Core Directors and Lead Consultants - Experts in Energy Risk

John Dobson - Managing Director - set up a US-based consultancy in 1981, moving it to Europe three years later. He started his career in Shell as a refinery technologist and worked in several refining, supply and trading roles before ending his career with Shell as Caribbean Trading Manager. He designed the first oil trading course more than 20 years ago and has since been active in both training and consultancy projects around the world.

Sally Clubley - Director of Training - has been a freelance consultant specialising in price risk management, since 1989. Previously, she was a futures broker with ED&F Man for almost a decade, becoming the director of the oil division in London. During her time there she was on the board of the IPE. Prior to that, she was a journalist, working as technology editor of European Chemical News. She is the author of "Trading in Oil Futures and Options".

Daniel Carr - until recently, the European Representative of the HKMEx and previously was Vice President – International Affairs for the New York Mercantile Exchange. Prior to joining NYMEX he spent thirteen years as a crude oil and refined products trader with Mabanaft before moving on to be a director of ED&F Man’s oil futures broking division, working in both London and New York. Daniel was also a director of the International Petroleum Exchange (now ICE).

John Davies spent 27 years with Shell, in refinery line management positions in the UK, Holland and Singapore. These roles included being Start-Up Manager for Shell's first purpose-built residual fluid catalytic cracker as well as Stanlow Refinery Manufacturing Manager and Stanlow Site Health Safety and Environment Manager.

Michael Jarvis has worked for Shell in the UK, Venezuela and for 9 years in the USA and has travelled extensively in developing world areas.  His positions have included Refinery Process Engineer in the UK and Venezuela, Supply and Trading Manager in New York, Marketing Manager International Aviation, Marine Lubricants and Bunker Sales in London, and Vice President Crude Oil Trading in Houston.

Howard Skipp also worked for Shell, starting as refinery technologist and moving on to a variety of oil supply, trading and marketing jobs in the UK, Malaysia and Korea. These jobs involved supply/refining, international oil trading and marketing of aviation fuel, marine fuel and lubricants. He was also responsible for recruitment for Shell International and the training programme for oil trading.

John Moulton has nearly thirty years of oil, gas, power and CO2 experience, holding senior roles in both marketing and trading.  Most recently, General Manager of Shell Energy Trading Limited, responsible for Shell's gas and power trading across Europe.  Previous jobs including leading oil product distribution for Europe West, managing crude oil trading across the Atlantic Basin, and selling retail and commercial fuels and lubricants in the UK.

Isabel Whitley - is a freelance consultant specializing in EnergyPrice Risk Management. Previously she had 18 years experience first as a physical oil trader for Shell International, and later as an OTC derivatives trader and marketer for Morgan Stanley. She was also responsible for oil markets during the start-up of the InterContinental Exchange (ICE), and head of energy derivatives marketing for Standard Bank from 2002-2004.

Phil Snaith has over 35 years’ international experience in diverse energy businesses of Royal Dutch Shell, his career has spanned much of the downstream oil products commercial businesses. He has held Director and CEO level executive responsibilities in UK, USA, Caribbean, Singapore and in China, where he developed new Retail, Lubricants, LPG, Bitumen and Aviation ventures.  

Meg Annesley is an independent consultant formerly with BP and then as managing director of Tricentrol Oil Trading Ltd, where she set up and managed an international oil trading operation based in London and Houston, USA, handling crude oil, products and futures. She has advised many companies on oil trading contracts and risk management and is also secretary of the Association of United Kingdom Oil Independents
